If you need to escape the relatives or take a break from watching England struggle down under then head over to North Leeds Cricket Club (LS8 1JX) to watch their annual Boxing Day Cricket Match against the Northern Cricket Society, represented this year by a Wetherby Cricket League XI.

The game starts at 10.30am and will be 30 over a side. There will be refreshments, mulled wine and the bar will be open. A charity raffle will be held. All proceeds to St Gemma’s Hospice.

North Leeds and the Northern Cricket Society have been braving the elements on Boxing Day since the 1970s and the match always takes place whatever the conditions. In recent years, both teams have played in several inches of snow and no doubt this year they will be hoping for fine weather, which has passers-by watching on with amusement.

In the past some of the greats of the game, including legendary Yorkshire and England all-rounder Brian Close, have played their part in making this an annual tradition on the local cricketing circuit.

The match will commence at 10:30am on Tuesday 26th.
